Gouvieux, France, 13 May 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam has expressed shock and sadness in the wake of an attack on a bus carrying members of the Ismaili community on their way to work in Karachi, Pakistan, that left 43 people dead. “This attack represents a senseless act of violence against a peaceful community,” said Mawlana Hazar Imam.

Cairo, 2 May 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam was in Egypt to attend an event marking the restoration of the 14th century Aqsunqur Mosque. Work on Cairo’s “Blue Mosque” was completed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture as part of its Al-Darb al-Ahmar Urban Regeneration Programme.

During his visit to India earlier this month, Mawlana Hazar Imam and his family visited the Qutb Shahi Heritage Park, where conservation work is being carried out by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Days earlier, Hazar Imam and and his family had toured Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi.

Members of the British Parliament invited the Ismaili Muslim community to mark the festival of Navroz at the Houses of Parliament last month. The fourth annual Navroz reception took place on 17 March in the Terrace Pavilion at the House of Commons.

On 10 April, Mawlana Hazar Imam was accompanied by Prince Aly Muhammad, Princess Zahra and her children, Sara and Iliyan on a visit to the Aga Khan Academy, Hyderabad. Hazar Imam and his family members met teachers, staff and students as they toured the Junior and Senior schools, the athletics centre and the student residences.

6 April 2015 — Exhaustion from three days of intense sports competition couldn’t stop Unity Games participants from dancing until the early hours of Monday morning. Attendees of the closing ceremonies enjoyed many performances as well as each others’ company before returning to their homes.

3 April 2015 — The Unity Games 2015 Mwanza kicked off with over 1 500 Ismailis coming together from five nations, including hosts Tanzania, as well as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi.

2 April 2015 — Participants and spectators from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda joined together to travel to Mwanza for the 2015 Unity Games. Many of the buses journeyed for up to 20 hours before arriving to a warm Tanzanian welcome in the middle of the night.

2 April 2015 — On Thursday, Mwanza welcomed Jamati members from all over Tanzania as well as Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda to participate in the four-day Unity Games sports tournament.
