The 2017 Unity Games has brought Jamats from all over the African continent together in Mombasa. Between 13 – 16 April, more than 700 Ismaili athletes will compete in 19 sports, and will be cheered on by hundreds of fans.

The Jubilee Games Fanous has reached every Jamatkhana in Kenya. It has travelled to cities, towns and villages, wildlife conservancies, and other notable places. This video highlights these travels, and the pride of the Kenyan Jamat!

Nairobi, 17 March 2016 — Mawlana Hazar Imam commissioned a state-of-the-art printing press for the Nation Media Group today, marking an important new milestone for the East African media house that he founded more than half a century ago. He also reaffirmed its critical role in what he described as a “post-fact society.”

Nairobi, 11 December 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam arrived in Kenya today, where he will participate in Jamhuri Day celebrations at the invitation of His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Based at the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, Global Encounters campers from Jamats around the world engaged in community service, explored Kenyan culture and visited AKDN projects in the surrounding region.

This summer, 160 Ismaili students and volunteers gathered in Mombasa to take part in Global Encounters 2015. Now in its third year, the programme brought together youth and young professionals from 24 countries to renew a tradition of global citizenship and experience living as part of an international community.

Nairobi, 2 March 2015 — Mawlana Hazar Imam met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at the State House today. The meeting followed the convocation ceremony of the Aga Khan University, where Hazar Imam presided in his capacity as Chancellor of AKU.

Nairobi, 2 March 2015 — Addressing the Aga Khan University’s graduating class in Nairobi today, Mawlana Hazar Imam said that the university can play a central role in supporting civil society in Africa. Together with convocations in Tanzania, Uganda, the Kenyan ceremony marked 15 years of AKU’s presence in East Africa.

When three Ismaili entrepreneurs saw the potential for their business model to improve education and address poverty in Kenya, they partnered with a Nairobi primary school and a local charity to test the idea. Student attendance, grades and enrollment at the school have since soared.

RAYS OF LIGHT: Glimpses into the Ismaili Imamat opened recently in Nairobi. First launched in 2008 in Paris, the exhibition – a Golden Jubilee International Programme – offers glimpses from the life of Mawlana Hazar Imam, the first fifty years of his Imamat and the immense scope and work of Aga Khan Development Network institutions around the world.
